A Future For Gorillas Built by Congolese Communities
GRACE (Gorilla Rehabilitation and Conservation Education Center) runs the world's only sanctuary for rescued Grauer's gorillas in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. The organization rehabilitates and rewilds orphaned Grauer's gorillas — a critically endangered species — while protecting over 500,000 acres of forest habitat in the Congo Basin.
GRACE partners with local Congolese communities in the Tayna-Usala corridor to monitor gorillas, manage forest reserves, and engage over 70,000 community members in conservation education and sustainable livelihood programs. In a historic milestone, GRACE reintroduced four gorillas from its sanctuary to Virunga National Park.
