Providing lifelong refuge, rehabilitation, and education for companion parrots and their caregivers.
MAARS is a parrot sanctuary founded in July 1999 in Minnesota. Since its founding, nearly 1,500 unwanted parrots have come through its doors, with more than 1,400 successfully placed into permanent homes. The organization operates a facility called The Landing and relies on a team of regular and part-time volunteers.
MAARS' primary mission is to educate the public, parrot caregivers, and the veterinary community about the issues facing captive parrots. The organization also raises funds through a gift shop featuring artwork created by its resident birds, and is currently working toward building a new sanctuary space that provides room for flight.
