There are few animals as instantly recognizable, or as universally loved, as the giant panda. But behind every panda still living in the wild is something less visible: protected forests, restored habitat, wildlife corridors, careful monitoring, and people working every day to make sure this remarkable species has a future.
A symbolic adoption turns that work into something personal.
Your adoption helps support the conservation efforts that protect pandas and the places they call home. Those efforts have already made a difference: in 2016, the giant panda was reclassified from Endangered to Vulnerable. It was an extraordinary conservation milestone, but not the end of the story. Pandas still depend on continued protection of their increasingly fragmented habitat.
And your adoption gives you something to hold onto, too.
You’ll receive a personalized adoption certificate and a collectible, numbered species card that tells the story of the animal you’re helping protect. At higher adoption levels, you’ll also receive a panda plush: a small, tangible reminder of something much bigger.
Because the best gifts don’t disappear when they’re opened. They spark curiosity. They start conversations. They remind us that an animal living in a forest thousands of miles away is part of our world, too. Its future is something all of us can help protect.
Adopt a panda. Help protect its home. Become part of its story.
Population trend: mixed. The giant panda moved from Endangered to Vulnerable in 2016 after decades of protection. The red panda, unrelated and Endangered, is still declining.
Roads, farms, and railways divide panda habitat into more than thirty separate populations, several too small to last alone.
Red pandas are trapped for their fur and caught for the pet trade across the eastern Himalayas.
Bamboo flowers and dies back periodically, which a connected population can walk away from and an isolated one cannot.
Livestock trample the understory bamboo red pandas feed on, and herding dogs carry distemper into their habitat.
Funds from our panda adoptions go to the Wildlife Connect Panda Fund, which supports vetted wildlife sanctuaries and conservation organizations working to protect pandas, their habitats, and the many species that live alongside them.
