View details Sanctuary for Orangutans & Chimpanzees
The Center for Great Apes provides a permanent sanctuary for orangutans and chimpanzees who have been rescued or retired from the entertainment industry, from research, or from the exotic pet trade. It is the only accredited orangutan sanctuary in North America and one of only a handful of accredited chimpanzee sanctuaries.
The organization receives no government funding and relies entirely on donations. It cares for apes who can never be released to the wild, and operates as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit under the legal name Center for Orangutan and Chimpanzee Conservation, Inc.
Open to the public: day visits, a visitor centre, guided walks.
