Founded in 1977, Ventana Wildlife Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to conserving native wildlife and their habitats through science, education, and collaboration. The organization is best known for its California Condor restoration program, active since 1997, and a successful Bald Eagle reintroduction project along the central California coast from 1986 to 2000, during which 70 juvenile Bald Eagles were released at their Big Sur Sanctuary.
In addition to species recovery, Ventana Wildlife Society provides outdoor education programs connecting more than 1,300 youth annually with nature experiences across Monterey County, including whale watching, kayaking, tidepool exploration, and wilderness hiking. The organization also offers ecological services, wildlife data management tools, and community programs through its Big Sur Discovery Center and regional Community Hubs.
