Sea turtles have been doing the same thing for a hundred million years: coming ashore, laying in the sand, and going back to the water. What keeps that going now is less ancient. It is night patrols on nesting beaches, hatcheries guarded through the season, lighting ordinances argued with local councils, and the gear changes that stop turtles drowning in nets set for something else.

Your adoption helps support the organizations protecting sea turtles and the beaches they return to. Protection works here in a way that is easy to measure: a guarded beach produces hatchlings, and an unguarded one often produces none. Six of the seven species are still listed as threatened by the IUCN, and the hawksbill is Critically Endangered.
